HELP A BUDDING SPORTS JOURNALIST!

Some of you will remember young Josh, who used to help out on the refreshments stall when we were based at Wm. Torbitt School.

Josh left us to study a degree in Sports Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire.  As part of his course, Josh is required to post a blog, giving his opinion or spin of sports related topics/stories.  This will aid his writing skills and he will be assessed on a particular blog topic later this year.

Josh has asked if any of you have a spare moment, please visit his blog and add your comments and any constructive critism you may be able to offer, to help him improve his journamlism skills.  (Link below).

Josh is doing very well at Uni, he has been appointed match report writer for Preston North End Youth and Reserves and writes match reports on the Uni sports teams for the Uni paper.  He will also begin some radio work later this term.

On behalf of Josh, many thanks for your support.

25 SEPTEMBER 2009 : WOODFORD'S GOT TALENT

  WOODFORD SONG FOR THE STANDS?

From Raj Khiroya : U7's A/U9's C Team

I had a request from both my sons Ravi and Rishi, that we should have a team football song that all the boys can sing.

I thought it was a great idea, so I have borrowed the famous Chelsea song 'Blue Is The Colour', (being an avid blues fan!),  but with the words changed, and a reference to our home ground at Elmbridge, added!

Hope you enjoy!

                   ORANGE IS THE COLOUR !

Orange is the colour, football is the game
We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Woodford, Woodford is our name.

Here at the 'Bridge whether rain or fine
We can shine all the time
Home or away, come and see us play
You're welcome any day

Orange is the colour, football is the game
We're all together and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
Cos Woodford, Woodford is our name!

SEPTEMBER 9 2009 : LIONS CLUB OF FAIRLOP NATIONAL KNOCK OUT COMPETITION

The 2009/10 season will see Woodford Youth U14’s boys representing the Lions Club of Fairlop, which is part of Lions Club International, in a very prestigious National Knock-out competition.

Lions Club is the world’s largest service organization with clubs throughout the world including the United Kingdom. Its remit is to help those less fortunate through service and fund raising and it's motto is ‘We Serve’

Fairlop have been serving the local community for many years. While their main focus is always on helping the needy, the organisation also endeavour to work with the community to encourage participation and promote Lionism, especially to the youth community.

With this in mind, Lions Club International is once again organizing a National cup knock-out competition. This competition is sanctioned by the English FA and the only one to be sanctioned by UEFA. This season the southern semi-final will be played at Swindon Town FC and the final will be staged at Rushden & Diamonds FC.

This provides a wonderful opportunity for a team to play against opponents and in towns that they may never have heard of, let alone been to before. It can also provide a clear measure of what level one league is at relative to another.

Lions Club is keen to sponsor a local team every year and there is only one age group - Under 14’s. We are delighted that Frank Massingham and his team will be representing Fairlop Lions and hopefully have a good run in the competition. We hope our boys in orange can go one better this season than last years chosen representatives, Redbridge United,  and win the competition.  Redbridge United narrowly lost in the Final by 1- 0.

As the teams' sponsor, Fairlop Lions Club will meet all costs associated with the team. If playing at home, this will include the cost of the pitch, referee, assistant linesmen, and if possible a buffet following the game for both teams and their coach. If drawn away, the cost of transport and any refreshments for the coach and a squad of 16 players.

We hope the team and parents enjoy this competition and will support it in great numbers.

We invite the Mighty Orange Army to turn up in force to support Frank, Sal and the boys, in what is a prestigious and exciting event for the team, club, borough and Lions Club of Fairlop.  Fixtures and match day details will be posted on this site

Woodford Youth F.C. extend our warmest thanks to the Lions Club of Fairlop for their competition invitation.
